Cherry Vinegar Flytrap 50ml
Biology:
The cherry vinegar fly is about 3 mm in size and belongs to the dew or vinegar fly family (Drosophilidae). In contrast to native vinegar flies, however, the female of the cherry vinegar fly is able to pierce the healthy, ripening fruit still on the plant with the help of a saw-like ovipositor and lay eggs with typical thread-like respiratory appendages in them.
The larva can hatch from the egg after only one day. The larvae feed inside the berry and also pupate there. As the development time is relatively short, several generations can occur per season (optimum temperature approx. 25°C).
Crops:
Dark berries are preferred. All berry-like or soft-skinned fruits: cherry, strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, gooseberry, currant, blueberry, elderberry, plum, peach, nectarine, apricot, fig, kiwi, grape, grape cherry, bay cherry and other berry species.
Properties:
- Monitoring trap for infestation detection
- with special attractant
- easy handling
Damage pattern
Set up the bait trap before the cherry vinegar fly invades the berry fields. From June/September onwards, infestation increases on healthy fruits that are still attached to the plant and can collapse within
a short time. Several legless, white fly maggots are usually found in them. Less heavily infested fruits may still appear externally in tact for a long time.
Secondary infestation with fungi or bacteria often occurs. The damage can be up to 100%.
Instructions for use:
To reduce infestation, several cherry vinegar fly bait traps should be hung at intervals of 2 m to 3 m in the immediate vicinity or in the crop when infestation occurs. Bait traps should be placed at the level of the fruit set. The bait should be replaced after four weeks at the latest. Do not empty bait into the crop or compost, but into the sink. Infested fruits should not be disposed of in the compost.
